2024 Trash & Recycling Schedule

By City Ordinance, residential trash and recycling will join water and sewer as a Municipal Service. That means trash and recycling will be invoiced by the City along with monthly water and sewer services. The cost for trash and recycling will be $22.50 per month (includes 95-gallon container). Please note, residential trash collection is not optional. If you receive a water and sewer bill, you will also be paying for trash collection.

The City is able to provide these significant savings, because they have entered into a 5-year agreement for trash and recycling with Republic Services (Bloomington). By committing to the multi-year agreement, the City hopes to avoid any rate increases for the duration of the contract.

Trash collection day is Friday. Our  agreement also provides weekly bulk pick up on Tuesdays (such as furniture, mattresses, etc) if the resident requests the service at least 24 hours in advance by emailing atlantabulk@republicservices.com. White goods (washers and dryers, for example) will be collected for a small fee with advance notification as well.

Recycling is included in the trash collection service at no additional cost. Households who wish to participate in the recycling program must contact City Hall to request those containers. Recycling containers will be provided later and be collected every two weeks on alternating schedules. Please refer to the maps (links below) to determine which recycling schedule your household is assigned:

Map 5411 will begin recycling pickup Aug 5, 2022, and will continue every other Friday after.

Map 5412 will begin recycling pickup Aug 12, 2022, and will continue every other Friday after.

For your convenience, you may print the 2023 Trash & Recyclable Pickup Schedule (PDF below) and post it on your refrigerator or bulletin board as quick reference guide. This guide also summarizes acceptable recyclables and general trash pickup guidelines (page 2).

Dry vegetation, tree limbs, and other dry yard waste may be burned on the premises until 7 p.m. each day or may be taken to the City dump on Wednesday or Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon (City Dump is closed during winter months).
